Open Question: Should Biden come clean on his insider DC ties? ?

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

When Joe Biden’s brother and son wanted to buy a hedge fund company two years ago, they turned for financing to a law firm that had lobbied the Delaware senator’s office on an important piece of business in Congress — and in fact had just benefited from his vote.

The firm promised James and Hunter Biden that it would invest $2 million, and quickly delivered half of it.

That deal eventually fell through and the money was returned. But it highlighted the close ties that Joe Biden and his family have developed with SimmonsCooper, an Illinois law firm that specializes in asbestos litigation — a multimillion-dollar line of business that was under threat in Congress.

In addition to providing financing for the hedge fund deal, SimmonsCooper picked the law firm of another of Biden’s sons, Beau, to work with it on dozens of asbestos cases in Delaware. ‘It was only natural that we worked with my friend Beau Biden and his firm,’ said Jeffrey Cooper, longtime former managing partner of SimmonsCooper.

And SimmonsCooper employees have donated about $200,000 to Biden’s campaign efforts since 2001, making the firm his No. 1 donor. All told, SimmonsCooper employees provided much more money to Biden than to any other senator during that period.”

First we have Obama and Tony Rezco with favors done, now we have ‘Old” Joe Biden pulling the same scheme, so much for the “CHANGE” Obama is bringing, all he is bringing is more corrupt Democrat antics with him to DC, the same DC that he wanted to “CHANGE”

Open Question: In your opinion, isn’t it WONDERFUL that Palin isn’t a DC insider with lobbyists in the family like Biden?

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Won’t it be a breath of fresh air to get a newcomer in there, filled with integrity, honesty and a no-nonsense person who even fights against her own party if she senses corruption, just like she did in Alaska?

Here are some excerpts about the Biden ties:

Biden Family Financial Connections Detailed

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden is facing some questions about his family’s lobbying and financial dealings.

The Biden family’s connections to SimmonsCooper, an Illinois law firm that specializes in representing asbestos victims, is detailed today in a Los Angeles Times investigation by Chuck Neubauer and Tom Hamburger.

The Times reports that the firm promised to finance a hedge fund deal for Biden’s son, Hunter, and brother, James (which ultimately fell through); picked the law firm of another son, Beau, to work on dozens of asbestos cases in Delaware; and that SimmonsCoopers employees donated about $200,000 to Biden’s campaign efforts since 2001, making the company his top donor.

Hunter Biden is a Washington lobbyist. Beau Biden, the attorney general of Delaware, gave an emotional introduction to his father at the Democratic Convention last night.

The Times’ report follows several stories this week documenting Hunter Biden’s lobbying connections and financial dealings:

– The Post reported yesterday that as a U.S. senator, Barack Obama sought more than $3.4 million in congressional earmarks, including $192,000 for a suburban Chicago university, for Hunter Biden’s clients.

And don’t you just love that both McCain and Palin will fight those endless earmarks?

Open Question: I want to become an investment banker, currently in community college. Possible?

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I’m 18 and about to finish my 2nd year of cc with a 3.2 gpa. I didn’t really try and let family and financial problems affect me too much and I think I may have to retake many of the classes to try and get a 4.0 or something close. I’ve heard and read many times that GPA is very important in getting a job in this field so retaking some classes would be the smart thing to do, right?

I’m and accounting major now and was planning on becoming an accounting/finance double major but after reading so much here I feel like it doesn’t really matter since IB firms recruit all types of graduates and just want a high GPA and make sure the person is very analytical (if that makes any sense at all). Should I go for accounting/finance or something else, hypothetically which would be the best possible major, Math?

Which schools should I try to transfer to and would it be a realistic goal coming from community college? I’ve heard many times that where you get your 4 year degree doesn’t matter as much as where you get your Masters, true? do many I-bankers get their 4 years from some ok school and try to go Harvard/Yale/Stanford/Wharton/MIT for their masters because that’s most important?

Resolved Question: If "W" were in charge of the Bush family finances, would they still be wealthy?

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Marvin 4 years ago I voted Libertarian.

Just like I did 8 years ago.

You’re not seriously suggesting that Gore or Kerry would have kept the purse strings tighter?

I live in Mass. I know John Kerry well enough to know that he’d have spent even more - just on his union chief buddies instead of his corporate buddies.

Open Question: IS there a law concerning medical excuses and Child support in PA?

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

IS there a law concerning medical excuses and Child support in PA?
My child support case went to a contempt hearing (for like the 9th time in the last ten years). This time however, I did not budge and went in front of a judge. My ex-husband (who always has a trick up his sleeve) had a doctors excuse that simple read :Patient is currently unable to work.”
It did not give a time length or a reason.
Domestic Relations accepted this and wiped all child support away.
I appealed.
Is this an acceptable doctors excuse?
How do I fight this, if I do at all?

WE have 2 children, teenage girls and he never paid child support. There was always a reason, a way out if I may.
He doesn’t see the girls, doesn’t do any kind of school shopping or anything of the sorts. They are and have been living with me for the last 13 years. One is 17 and the other 14.
Isn’t it only fair to everyone that he contributes somehow?
Please advise……

Patty

I would wipe it clean, honestly. His finances mean nothing to me. However, last year ny new husband and I lost a child to SIDS. Ryan was 5 mo. old when he died. My exhusband took up collection after collection (raffle tix, drawings, etc…) to help pay for our funeral. He pocketed all of his collections.
The only way I can make him leave us alone once and for all is through his pocketbook. (No, the police wont file charges) I need to be strong and tell him that I’ll not put up with it anymore. I simply refuse to move my children away from their family and friends just to get away from their dead beat theif of a dad.
I know I have rights, but do not know what they are.
FYI: Years ago, the girls were given an Easter card each with $8.00 from an aunt. He kept their $8.00.
I need to take a stance and do so now, before they get jobs and their own money that he can get his hands on.

Resolved Question: How can I prepare for my boyfriend’s parents coming to go over finances?

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Alright, so I am having trouble paying for school and don’t want to take out a loan if I don’t have to. (I’m only in my second year.) My boyfriend’s parents are coming up on Monday to talk to my boyfriend and they said they’d like to sit down with me, go over my budget, and see how they can help. Now, his parents are very well off and my boyfriend has a feeling that they might give or loan me money. (We have been together for a while and there is talk of marriage not only by me and my boyfriend, but by our parents and family.) I printed out my budget, and it’s pretty simple. I wrote down and organized everything that I spend money on and divided it up into School, Monthly, and Annual expenses. I wrote down the category (groceries, travel, oil changes, etc), and a cost. (It is printed off the computer, not hand written.) I believe the budget is set, but how do I prepare myself? I don’t want to seem like an idiot, but I’m not used to doing this stuff… especially with his parents. If they offered me money I would be stunned, and very grateful, but how do I react/accept politely IF they do? Maybe some ideas on what I might have missed?

Thanks!

Open Question: Who really owned the house?

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

My mother in-law and father in-law bought a property 10 years ago(unfortunately before I was part of the family and thus unable to nip the upcoming tragedy in the bud). They were unable to qualify for a loan at the time so their eldest daughter got a loan and signed the note (I know, terrible, terrible idea). My mother and father in-law paid the $36,000 down payment and the $1500 monthly payment every month. Sadly my father in-law passed away last year. Afterwards, my mother in-law decided to sell the house as she couldn’t afford to stay there. However, when the house was sold, the eldest daughter (who signed the note) took every dollar in cash netted from the sale (over 100k) and used it to buy her dream house. Now my mother in-law is left 70 years old and penniless. She is devastated and there is nothing left in her estate for her to sell to live on or pass on to her other children. The rest of us in the family only recently realized what the eldest daughter had done (she always managed her mother’s finances, yes another very bad idea). My question comes down to who really owned the house? My mother and father in-law paid every penny on it from start to finish. There was never any inference that they were renting it from their eldest daughter. Everyone in the family is shocked and upset. Does my mother in-law have a legal case to go after the 100k+ ? Or is it simply a matter of the daughter’s name was on the note and thus it’s hers, no recourse available?
